Live Painting by LEBO

Cuban-American artist David “LEBO” LeBatard is known for his vibrant, soulful paintings. Dynamic and whimsical, LEBO’s universe is populated with inspired musicians and colorful characters reminiscent of his Cuban-American upbringing.
Inherently positive, LEBO has a distinct vernacular signified by his use of bold colors, stylized black lines and musical metaphors. Multilayered pieces are enjoyed by diverse audiences – young and old, art aficionados and novices alike. The accessibility and energy of his work, combined with his understanding of graphic art, have made him an ideal partner for projects with Bacardi, Adidas, Gibson Guitars, Macy’s, the Latin Grammys, Calvin Klein, Zo’s Summer Groove and the Langerado Music Festival.
Connected to and inspired by his heritage, much of LEBO’s work is grounded in rich Latin rhythms, with musicians and other icons translating that cultural legacy to new audiences. But his work moves far beyond the Latino sphere, constantly engaging in a robust dialogue with the world around him.
Born in New York and raised in South Florida, LEBO graduated from Florida International University, and went on to lecture on the practical and technical approaches of Cartoon Art at the International Museum of Cartoon Art. Awarded grants by both the Ford Foundation and The Miami Light Project, LEBO travels across the country for private commissions and solo/group exhibitions. Among other outstanding commissions, his partnership with Italian mosaic producers Trend International has led to LEBO designing the world’s largest mosaic mural (30ft x 200ft), presently being installed in Italy.
